Computer conncted to av amp?

can anyone tell me why when i connect my computers digital audio output using a toslink optical cable to my av amp and try to watch a dvd the sound on the amp stays in pro logic and does not change to dolby digital.I am using a terra tec aureon 5.1 pci sound card and my av amp is a yamaha
