Needs medicine ideas for bad cough?

I have a really bad cough, it's dry, not producing any muscus and it doesn't seem to be coming from my chest. Everytime I breath in I have to cough, It's keeping me from sleeping, seriously irritating my already sore throat, made me voice very horse and just a general annoyance. Any ideas that had helped you get rid of it is great. I've already tried menthol cough drops, theraflu daytime, nyquil, a generic version of Cleritian, and yesterday Delsym, which is supposed to be strictly a cough suppressant but it didn't seem to work. The only thing in my medicine cabninet I have yet to try is Tussin CF for cough and cold. However I am reluctant to try it since hearing about one of the active ingredients being dangerous, I believe it's the Phenylephrine, so if you have any information on that, let me know.
