What is a car for a family of 8 that has decent gas mileage and storage room?

About to have child #6 and we need to get a bigger car. Used a family member's chevy express 1500 to drive on vacation this past week and weren't too impressed. Used too much gas and pretty wimpy in our opinion. Are the big vans or a suburban-like vehicles our only options?
