When should we tell my step kids that I am pregnant?

I have a 5 y/o stepdaughter and 9 y/o stepson. Their father and I are not legally married because his "wife" won't grant him a divorce. They have been separated for 5 years. We have been together for 2. It won't be easy to deal with the "ex". When should we tell the kids and how?
